Sydney Mupeta - Acting Chief Executive Officer
Sydney, a change agent who believes in constant innovation, is a seasoned technology leader with over 16 years’ experience in planning, designing, operating and modernizing Telecommunication networks in East and Central Africa.
As a CTO at Zamtel, he developed a dynamic team that deployed over 400 2G/3G sites in house after vendor training. He also introduced quality and operation assurance sections as part of organization transformation that restructured various functions and introduced customer centric ways-of- working.
Sydney holds a Master's Degree in Communication Engineering with Distinction (University of Manchester, UK) and Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Telecommunication with Distinction (University of Zambia). He also holds a Certificate in Business with Honors from Harvard Business School and he is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Finance from Harvard University.
Sydney worked for Ericsson East Africa as Head of Design and Planning and for Celtel as Senior Planning Engineer. At Ericsson, Sydney setup the Design and Planning Organization which was responsible for technology roadmap and migration for Airtel networks.
His dynamic personality enabled him to successfully handle Sales. While at Ericsson, Sydney brought to the company tens of millions of dollars in revenue when he was a Senior Customer Solution Sales Manager.
Sydney is the former Chairman of the National Task Force on Digital Migration of Terrestrial Television for the Republic of Zambia. He successfully presided over the first phase of the migration project that was rolled out along the line of rail.
Sydney is a self-driven and result oriented strategic leader who strives for performance excellence. His competence in strategic execution makes him stand a step away from the rest. He is a passionate leader who believes in leading from the front.
Nchimunya Hachandi - Chief Financial Officer
Nchimunya Hachandi joined Zamtel as Chief Financial Officer from Airtel Sierra Leone where he served in the capacity of Finance Director for 2 years. He has nearly 16 years of experience in business advisory services, financial operations and management in the telecommunications and audit sector, including eight years at Airtel (former Zain and Celtel), which he joined in 2003.
During his time at Airtel Zambia, he held various senior positions, including manager of finance, business planning and also responsible for the investor relations and was instrumental in the financial management of the most extensive communications network that Airtel undertook between 2004 to 2007.
Prior to joining Airtel, Nchimunya was a senior Associate of the Assurance and Business Advisory Services at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he was a lead member of various audit and accountancy assignments with major focus on telecommunication companies.
Nchimunya has served on the board of Airtel Money Trustees Sierra Leone as well as Airtel Towers Sierra Leone. Nchimunya earned a bachelor's degree in Accounting from the Copperbelt University and is a fellow of the ACCA and ZICA. He holds a postgraduate diploma of finance from Manchester Business School, UK. Nchimunya also holds a practice license as a certified public accountant.
Albert Salima - Chief Information Services Officer
Albert brings to Zamtel more than 20 years of experience in IT service delivery spanning different industries ranging from Railways (Zambia Railways) Manufacturing (Dunlop), Banking (CitiBank Zambia) and Telecoms (Zain/Airtel).
His 12 years in telecoms at Zain/Airtel, spurred him to the peak as IT Director with Airtel Malawi between 2009 and 2011 where he is credited with transforming the IT and Data Centre relating to processes, procedures, Data safes and Data Centre capacity upgrade.
Albert has been involved in the successful swap of two billing systems from Service Nodes (Intervoice) to Ericsson IN, BSCS (post Paid) to Homisco Vanx. He holds a Bachelors Degree (Mathematics - University of Zambia), and Post Graduate Diploma (Business Administration) from the Edinburgh Business School, Herriot-Watt University.
Leya Mtonga Ngoma - Chief Legal and Regulatory Officer
Leya commands just over 15 years of experience in law practice cutting across different service industries such as aviation, compensation and education. Over the years, she has practiced law both in private as well as public institutions.
Admitted to practice as an Advocate in Zambia in November 1997, Leya launched her legal career in the airline industry where she practiced labour, contract aviation and international law as Corporate Legal Counsel for Aero Zambia Limited for about two years.
She then later worked for the Legal Resources Foundation as an Advocate for about six months before joining a private law firm, Shamwana and Company, where she practiced as an Advocate for five years.
Later, Leya joined corporate practice in 2006 and joined the Workers Compensation Fund Control Board as Legal Officer. After that, she joined Zambia Postal Services Corporation (ZAMPOST) as Assistant Legal Counsel.
Before joining Zamtel, she worked as Legal Counsel for the University of Zambia where she rendered legal advice to the University of Zambia Council and served as Company Secretary for Zamnet Communication Systems Limited, a subsidiary of the University of Zambia. Leya is a member of the Law Association of Zambia.
Mooka Akapelwa Silumbu - Chief Human Resources & Administration Officer
Mooka brings to Zamtel nineteen (19) years of Human Resources experience ranging from HR internal consultancy, administration of human resources policies and procedures to strategic level of heading the Human resources function.
He has previously worked in different private and public firms including Zambia Sugar Zambia Wild Life Authority, NAPSA and the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia.
Over years, Mooka has developed unique competencies that underlie increased productivity in the use of human capital. He has in-depth knowledge and experience in designing, implementing and maintaining company job evaluation instruments, Organization structures and output based performance management systems. He is a qualified competency based interviewer through HAY/MCBER professional training.
Mooka holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) - ESAMI - Arusha Tanzania, Bsc - Production Management with the Copperbelt University of Zambia as well as a Management Services Diploma with the Institute of Management Services (IMS) - UK. He is a member of the Zambia Institute of Human Resources Management (ZIHRM) and a Corporate Member of the Institute Of Management Services - UK.
Bwalya Freelance - Acting Chief Technical Officer
Bwalya Freelance has served Zamtel in various positions for 13 years. He has massive experience in telecoms technical operations, program management and project management. He is an expert in Telecom transmission and transport systems including DWDM, IP-Transport and Microwave.
Freelance holds a Master of Science (MSc) Degree in Telecommunication Engineering (Blekinge Institute of Technology - BTH, Sweden) and a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) Degree in Telecommunication (Copperbelt University). He is also a certified project management practitioner in PRINCE2 (APMG and ZEROX). Freelance is also Certified in program management MSP (APMG).
During his time with Zamtel from 2004 and 2017, he has held various senior positions including, transmission manager, principle engineer and senior manager-projects implementation in which he took lead of the reorganization program to introduce efficiencies and align project management to best practices and standards.
Before joining Zamtel, Freelance was a project engineer at Asea Brown Boveri - ABB Zambia where he was responsible for successful delivery of the Zesco power rehabilitation project in Kitwe.
Lho-zindaaba Sakala - Chief Sales and Distribution Officer
Lho Zindaaba brings to Zamtel over 16 years of work experience in Senior Management positions and exposure to both local and international organizations. She has experience working with private, government and non government organisations.
Lho Zindaaba is tasked with directing Zamtel's sales and distribution strategies covering the retail footprint, SMEs, Corporate, Business Solutions, consumer and international roaming agreements.
She is a graduate of the University of Lincoln with a Masters of Business Administration degree with a dissertation in finance UK.
She has previously worked as Country Director for Allied Mobile (Nokia International) as well as Commercial Services Director with the Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company. Her earlier exposure to telecommunication was at Telecel Zambia, now MTN where she worked as Head of Marketing and Commercial Business. In her personal life, Lho-zindaaba is a born again Christian.
Evans Muhanga - Chief Marketing Officer
Evans is a Fellow of the Zambia Institute of Marketing (ZIM) and a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) - United Kingdom.
He serves on the board committee for Corporate Affairs of the ACC Board and the marketing committee of the Board of ZTB. He is the Chairman of the Finance and admin committee of the IBA Board and serves too on the board of ZHECT. He is the current President of ZIM.
Evans is a graduate of the Copperbelt University School of Business where he graduated with a BSc in Production and Operations Management with Specialism in Productivity Management.
He also holds a Postgraduate Professional Diploma with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) UK. He is currently reading for an MBA.
Evans’ 17 years working career spans across Telecommnications, Tourism and FMCG industries. He has worked at senior management levels in both local and international companies. He is the current Chief Marketing Officer for Zamtel. Prior to that he worked as Marketing Director for Zambia Tourism Board, Marketing Director for Celtel/Zain Zambia (now Airtel) and worked as Marketing and Customer Services Director for Celtel/Zain (now Airtel) Sierra Leone in West Africa. Before Joining Airtel, he worked as Brand and Research Manager for both British America Tobacco in both Zambia and Zimbabwe operations. He also worked for Ministry of Finance, Lottery Management Company (Kwachamania) and ZICA before in his early career life.
Evans Muhanga believes in life-long learning and he has attended a lot of Corporate Governance Training programs with IOD and African Corporate Governance annual workshop in South Africa by Advantage Training, Marketing training workshops/Conferences with ZIM and Executive programs at London Business School UK in Marketing Driving Strategies and General Management Program (GMP) with Wits University South Africa.
